South Deerfield Water Supply District

The South Deerfield Water Supply District is a separate Town Government from the Town of Deerfield.  The South Deerfield Water Supply District has one main source of water, the Roaring Brook.  The South Deerfield Water Supply District manages two dams on the Roaring Brook.  The Whately Glen Reservoir is located in the Town of Whately, this Reservoir holds approximately 6.7 million gallons of water, upstream from this is our Roaring Brook Reservoir, holding approximately 164 million gallons of water.  Water is taken from this Reservoir and treated at our Roaring Brook Filtration Treatment Plant, from there the treated drinking water makes its way into the Roaring Brook Storage Tank and into our Distribution System to your home or business.  Our District owns and manages over 989 acres of protected land in our watershed.  The Board of Water Commissioner's, elected by the voters of the District, are responsible for the governance of the South Deerfield Water Supply District, the Board oversees an appointed Water Superintendent, who oversees the day-to-day operations of the District.  The South Deerfield Water Supply District currently has a total of (5) employees, including (3) Licensed Water Operators and (1) Part-Time Laborer.  Last Fiscal Year the South Deerfield Water Supply District treated just over 116 million gallons of water, with our maximum daily consumption taking place on June 24, 2021 with 838,768 gallons of water.
